An online tool from NC State Extension can make your next trip to the garden center even more productive. The North Carolina Extension Gardener Plant Toolbox contains nearly 4,500 detailed descriptions of plants that grow in the Old North State.

When you are landscaping, you need to find the right plant for the right spot. This tool makes it easy by letting you filter your search by things like:

  • Available light
  • Soil conditions
  • Available space to plant
  • Plant hardiness zone
  • Landscape feature
  • Attractiveness to wildlife and pollinators
  • and many more!

But once you’ve located the plants you want, have read the description, and decided they deserve a place in your yard or garden, the Toolbox has an additional feature that plant lovers will especially appreciate. Each plant can be added to a printable shopping list, complete with name, image, and even a QR code if you want to click back through for reminder details about the plant while in the store.
