Are you a:

  • U.S. veteran?
  • New farmer?

If you meet both of those qualifications then you are eligible to apply for direct assistance in the form of an award from the Farmer Veteran Coalition. The FVC is the nation’s largest nonprofit organization assisting veterans and currently serving members of the armed forces with embarking on careers in agriculture.

In 2021, the FVC is offering awards ranging from $1,000 to $5,000 to purchase equipment or supplies that will support your farm business. For example, Sean and Faye Autry, who own and operate Thunder Valley Ranch Custom Hay Baling and Cattle Company in Noble, Oklahoma, used their grant of $5,000 to purchase a desperately needed hay rake. They wanted to add custom hay baling to their operation, but had been unable to afford a suitable rake for their effort. “The Fellowship award was a godsend,” said Faye.

February 14 is the deadline to apply for the grants, and all applicants must meet specific requirements. Explore the 2021 Farmer Veteran Fellowship Application for full details.
