Even if your kids and teens aren’t overly excited about heading back to school, this time of year also brings with it the opportunity to register to be part of Polk County’s 4-H Fall programs. “Butt,” as you can see in the video above, we’ve not let social distancing protocols break our stride!! We simply had to get more creative with our programming options this semester.
Polk County 4-H Virtual Fall Programs for Ages 5-18
Take-and-Make Projects – (Ages vary) 4-H is all about hands-on learning. So, just because we can’t meet in person right now, that doesn’t mean that our focus has changed. We’re simply adapting our format! For the Polk County 4-H Fall Semester we are offering eight (8) different Make-and-Take kits. You choose the kit(s) your 4-Her will want to work on, and each month, you’ll drop by the Extension office to pick up the ones you’ve indicated. Then, all the students who have chosen their specific kit will meet together at the specified time on Zoom (using a link we will send you) to complete their projects together. View brochure for project details. Note: Families w/o internet access may opt to receive written instructions.
Mealtime with Helen (Ages 9 & up) – Bring your computer or smart phone right into the kitchen with you for these Zoom sessions. Participants will meet together once a month to learn cooking skills. An ingredient list will be provided ahead of time so that parents and students can follow along with Mrs. Helen to prepare that month’s recipe. Note: Parental Supervision is required for this program. Dates: 10/23, 11/20, 12/11. Time: 3:30–5 p.m. NO FEE
Graphic Design Basics (Ages 12 & up) – Students will meet each Thursday via Zoom to learn skills related to graphic design. Youth interested in art and visual communication will learn about balance, alignment, fonts, and color and will use a free graphic design platform to complete independent practice assignments. Dates: 9/17, 9/24, 10/1, 10/8, 10/15, 10/22. Time: 4–5 p.m. NO FEE
