Collapse ▲During a time when food supply chains are uncertain, knowing how to preserve your own produce has never been more important. If you’ve been considering learning more about home canning, you will have three great opportunities in Polk County this summer.
The N.C. Cooperative Extension, Polk County Center will be hosting 3 different hands-on workshops designed to teach the basics to those new to canning and preserving. You may pick and choose the session you want to attend, or register for all three.
What Will You Learn?
Family and Consumer Science agents from both Polk and Henderson County will be leading the workshops to introduce you to topics like:
- Filling jars to the right level
- Choosing the right produce for canning
- Cold and hot jar packing methods
- Pressure cooker safety
- How long canned foods can safely be stored
How Much Does It Cost?
There will be a $15 materials fee for each individual workshop. BUT, if you register for all three workshops, you can save $10. Total materials fee for participants attending the full series (either session) will be $35.
How to Register
Due to social distancing measures, we will be limiting class participation to 6 registrants per session. Sign up early using the links below to ensure your spot, or give us a call at 828-894-8218.
