2021 is here, which means it is time to register for the 4-H Winter Semester in Polk County. Last semester, our Take and Make projects were especially popular, so we have continued those in the new year with some fun and educational new options. Additionally, we will host our annual 4-H Presentation Program, which teaches youth the important skill of public speaking and gives them the opportunity to compete at the county and district level.

Take and Make Project List

Students have the option to choose from among seven different Take-and-Make hands-on learning kits. Each one incorporates a virtual meeting via Zoom to discuss the project, and then an additional meeting to discuss what students have learned with opportunities to show off their projects and ask any questions they may have.

For Winter session, 4-H is offering the following Take and Make projects:

• The Wonderful World of Microbes
• Groundhog Day
• Valentines Day Sewing Craft
• Intro to Weaving
• Hands-On with Electricity
• Bonsai Bonanza
• Herb Gardening

Express Yourself

Does your child or teen hide behind their hands or get sick to their stomach when asked to speak in front of a class or group? Public speaking is an important skill that

we use throughout our lives. It helps to not only improve communication but increases personal self-esteem, builds confidence, and develops leadership qualities.

Through the 4-H Presentation Program, your future public speaker has the opportunity to learn how to choose a topic, research it, organize their thoughts on it, and then practice presenting information about it using visual aids. Our 4-H agent will meet with all participants by appointment to work on their topics and develop their presentations over the next couple of months leading to County and District Presentation Day.

**Presentation Program Orientation will happen on Tuesday, January 26, 2021, at 4 p.m.**
