Longwood Gardens

This summer we are offering 3 of our popular online plant ID classes, offered in partnership with Longwood Gardens! These classes run from July 10 – August 21, however, you can join at any time within the first couple of weeks and still take full advantage of the class. Students will have access to course materials for an additional 6 months after the classes end.

These classes use familiar and commonly grown species to teach you the fundamentals of taxonomy, nomenclature, and morphology. All of the material is online, with no set times in which you need to participate. Learn at your own pace, from the comfort of your home! Discount codes are available for Extension Master Gardener Volunteers, JC Raulston Arboretum Volunteers, Extension Professionals, and Green Industry Professionals! Houseplants, Succulents, and Cacti: Identification and Use

How do you tell the difference between a Thanksgiving cactus and a Christmas Cactus? These species are some of the most unique and fascinating in the plant kingdom and have a botanical vocabulary all their own.

Trees, Shrubs, and Conifers: Identification and Use

pink and white flowersWe’ve selected 45 popular species of trees, shrubs, and conifers commonly seen in the landscape to help you build your ID skills and botanical vocabulary. Soon you’ll be saying “I know that one!” when you’re walking in your neighborhood or hiking in the forest. This class will also teach you about living fossils, conifers that lose their leaves in the fall, and trees with knees!

Understanding Plants
