Collapse ▲Registration is now open for the summer 4-H classes. All classes are held at the Polk County Cooperative Extension office at 79 Carmel Lane, Columbus.
Registration fills quickly and is on a first come first serve basis. Your child must be within the age range listed for each class. Ages for the classes are the age your child was on January 1, 2024. To register log in to 4-Honline.com. If you have not enrolled or re-enrolled for 2024 please do that first. Once enrolled click on Events on the left side of the screen. Then click register for a new event. Scroll till you find Polk Summer Fun 2024 and click. Now you can pick which sessions you are interested in. Continue until you come to the submit button.
Choose from the following classes:
Cloverbuds: The 4-H Cloverbud Program is a special part of Cooperative Extension’s 4-H Youth Development Program. Tailored to the developmental needs of 5-8 year olds, it provides an exciting introduction to the 4-H experience. Each class will include fun games, crafts and a mini lesson related to one area of 4-H. Cloverbuds will explore new topics and have fun with others while developing important life skills. Class Dates: 6/4, 6/18, 7/2, 7/16. Class Time: 10:00-12:00 Class Fee: $10
Basic Gardening: Youth ages 11-15 will learn about seed germination, soil, garden maintenance, grafting and propagation. In addition to touring gardens and cooking fresh produce in the kitchen. Taught by our horticulturalist Scott Welborn. Class Dates: 6/5, 6/7/ 6/10. Class Time: 9:00-12:00.
Young Chefs: Learn your way around the kitchen in this 4 part class. Youth 9-17 will explore breakfast, lunch and dinner foods as well as dessert. In addition, learn about important tools and terms used in the culinary world. Class Dates: 6/6, 6/13, 6/20, 6/27. Class Time: 9:00-12:00. Class Fee: $15
Sewing: Beginners: Learn the very basics of sewing with a sewing machine, tools and terms as you make your own pillow case and travel pillow. Class Dates: 6/17, 6/18. Class Time: 2:00-4:00. Class Fee: $10. Intermediate:. For youth who have already participated in our winter sewing program. Add on to the skills you have already learned. Class Dates: 6/24, 6/25. Class Time: 2:00-4:00. Class Fee: $10.
Rocketry 101: Youth ages 9-14 will explore important topics as they learn about the principles of flight. In this 3 day workshop they will experience launching several different kinds of rockets. Class Dates: 7/9-7/11. Class Time: 10:00-12:00.
Exploring Rabbits: Come learn about the adorable world of rabbits in this very hands on class. Learn how to care for, breed, and show. Each week we will be handling rabbits. Ages 8 and up. Class Dates: 7/12, 7/19, 7/26, 8/2. Class Time: 10:00-12:00.
Small Engines:. Anyone ages 11 to 17 interested in getting your hands dirty, or potentially starting a landscape business needs to take this class. Learn basic maintenance, tool and parts identification as we tear apart small engines. Class Dates: 7/30-8/1. Class Time: 10:00-12:00.
