As of February 1, 2021, the N.C. Cooperative Extension, Polk County Center has a new staff member: Livestock Agent Cassie LeMaster. Cassie brings a wealth of experience with her to Polk County, with a degree in Animal Science from NC State University and eight years of experience as a livestock agent in South Carolina.

Having grown up on a horse farm, Cassie was almost destined to specialize in equine studies. She got her Master's Degree in equine nutrition and puts her education to good use--not only for her extension clients but at the family cattle and horse farm that she helps manage.

For area residents, having a full-time livestock agent means consistent and ongoing help with everything from pasture and forage management to equine nutrition to general farm management techniques. She is available for home and farm visits, as well as as a source of contact for questions relating to all livestock animals as well as horses. Local equine organizations will be fortunate to have Cassie's expertise in the Polk County area, too.
