Blueberries can be a specialty crop that backyard growers can produce successfully. Participants will be guided through the pruning decision-making process and will gain hands-on knowledge of proper pruning techniques to maximize disease prevention and insect control, thus maximizing plant health and productivity.

This hands-on workshop will take place at a local home here in Polk County. Attendees will meet at the Cooperative Extension of Polk County and van transportation will be provided to and from the workshop site.

Join other K-8 classroom and nonformal educators as we explore activities in the Project Learning Tree K-8 Curriculum Guide. Every participant will leave the workshop with the PLT K-8 Activity Guide which includes 96 activities correlated to the NC Standard Course of Study and Essential Standards. The PLT activity guides are provided free of charge to participants through support from the NC Forestry Association. CEU renewal credits are available. This workshop qualifies for Criteria I in the EE Certification Program (K-8). Following the workshop, participants will be able to enjoy the view from the top of Chimney Rock (weather permitting).

STEM Connections? Differentiated instruction? Literature links? The PLT activity guide covers it all!!! The PreK-8 guide is correlated to the Common Core (math and ELA) as well as to the NC Essential Standards (science and social studies). Participants will learn about the materials through direct engagement in the PLT activities throughout the workshop. More details will be sent prior to the workshop. Lunch will be provided.

Please make a personal commitment to attend to ensure there are enough materials and space for everyone. Parking directions will be sent prior to the workshop. Cancellations made by the registration deadline will receive a $10 refund. Cancellations after this date will not receive a refund.
